STAMFORD, Conn., Apr 02, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- L-1 Identity Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: ID), a leading provider of identity solutions and services, was awarded a contract by the South Dakota Department of Public Safety for a complete Over-the-Counter (OTC) secure driver's license issuance system. The system includes the L-1 secure workflow process that adds critical security validations at key intervals of the issuance process, while optimizing the entire system for greater customer convenience and satisfaction. The seven-year contract is valued at $8.8 million. The award was made to the Secure Credentialing Division of L-1.
The new South Dakota system provides an end-to-end secure workflow process that minimizes the chance for fraud to occur at any point in the issuance process while optimizing the workflow for an improved customer experience. The system produces credentials using L-1's latest security technology. The process incorporates a secure ID workflow for applicant enrollment based on document scanning and authentication technologies that validate breeder documents presented as proof of identity and facial verification of individuals as part of an image capture system. The workflow components add critical security measures at each step of the credentialing process while providing a faster and more efficient process for obtaining an ID. Citizens who provide legitimate identification documentation will receive a driver's license and/or identification card that not only proves who they are, but also can be validated and authenticated by law enforcement and commercial retailers who depend on the accuracy of the printed information on the card.
